2003 ASCAP/PRS Awards Presented in London

Murphy/Greenaway/Martin/Brabec

ASCAP's Ralph Murphy and Roger Greenaway, legendary producer George Martin and ASCAP’s Todd Brabec.

ASCAP honored the top writer and publisher members of the PRS for significant performance of their works in the U.S. during 2002 at The Grovesnor House Hotel in London on October 15. Songwriter of the Year honors went to Craig David for “Seven Days” and Mark Hill for “Walking Away.” The Publisher of the Year Award went to Warner/Chappell Music Ltd. The Song of the Year was “Hero” written by Mark Taylor, Paul Barry and Enrique Iglesias.

Among the other award winners were U2 for “Beautiful Day” and “Stuck in a Moment,” Rob Davis and Cathy Dennis for “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” Billy Nichols for “Can’t Stop Loving You,” Phil Thornalley for “Torn,” Robert John “Mutt” Lange for “I’m Gonna Getcha Good,” “Man I Feel Like a Woman” and “You’re Still the One,” and Michael Oliver for “Jenny from the Block,” and many others (a full list of winners appears on www.ascap.com).

Film Awards were presented to Nick Glennie-Smith (We Were Soldiers); Craig Armstrong (The Quiet American); Adrian Johnston (Shackleton, TV); Charlie Mole (The Importance Of Being Earnest); and Trevor Jones (Dinotopia 1 & 2, TV). The College Award went to Clinic for “Walking With Thee,” written by Adrain Blackburn, Brian Campbell, Carl Turney and Jonathan Hartley.

A highlight of the evening was a special performance by noted songwriter Albert Hammond with veteran pop star Leo Sayer.
