With his two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Howard Shore is riding a wave of international acclaim.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King continues the historic success of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. Howard Shore’s incredible scores to the three films have been greeted with accolades from around the world. Alex Ross in The New Yorker recently wrote: “The Ring of Power extends its grip through the medium of music, which is the work of the gifted film composer Howard Shore.... Shore manages the admirable feat of summoning up a Wagnerian atmosphere without copying the original. He knows the science of harmonic dread.” ASCAP joined Shore in celebrating the release of The Return of the King at screenings held in New York City and Los Angeles. Shore also conducted the world premiere of The Lord of the Rings Symphony: Six Movements for Orchestra and Chorus in Wellington, New Zealand on November 29. “It is very gratifying to see the music from The Lord of the Rings trilogy find a new life on the concert stage” said Shore. He is scheduled to conduct the piece in the United States, Europe, Australia and Canada.
