Member Music Creates a Buzz
at Sundance Film Festival
In the Wasatch Mountains of Utah,
where the Sundance Film Festival is being held
from January 15 through the 25th, the hills are
truly alive with the sound of music. ASCAP composers
and songwriter/performers are out in full force
at this year's festival representing the
music side of the filmmaking art.
ASCAP's Sundance Music Café,
which is presenting eight days of performances
by ASCAP members, got off to an incredible start
the first weekend with unforgettable sets by such
artists as the legendary Joe Jackson, Grammy Award
winner Shawn Colvin, multi-instrumentalist and
bluegrass sensation Tim O'Brien, up and coming
soul sensations Ricky Fante and Goapele, folk/pop
singer/songwriter Edie Brickell with Charlie Sexton
and rock hitmakers The All American Rejects. From
day one, the café, located at Plan B nightclub
on Main Street in Park City, was packed, with
long lines of people on the street waiting to
see such great music in such an intimate setting.

Chrystal
Composer Stephen Trask, who wrote the music
for the Sundance Award-winning musical film
Hedwig and the Angry Inch, provides
the music for this tragic story. Billy Bob
Thornton plays Joe, who while being chased
by the law in the South, plunges his car
off a road with his wife, Chrystal, and
child inside. The life he must lead after
the crash is one filled with pain and violence,
but Joe struggles to find redemption and
hope with the help of his loving wife. Trask
creates the perfect regional music to accompany
this dark film, directed by Ray McKinnon.
