King Wilkie

King Wilkie

The birth of the Americana band King Wilkie occurred in a farmhouse near Charlottesville, Virginia, which is fitting considering the band is named after bluegrass legend Bill Monroe's favorite horse. Their adoration and respect for bluegrass and its themes of love, spirituality, death and loneliness underscore the band's beyond-their-youthful-years chops. King Wilkie's debut independent album, True Songs, got the attention of premier bluegrass label Rebel Records. The label released Broke, a mix of traditional sounding originals, standards and other overlooked gems. Superb playing from each of these pickers highlights instrumentals and beautiful vocal numbers alike. The original numbers truly shine as King Wilkie has produced a modern bluegrass album with an eye on the solemn history before them. Broke backs up their quick rise to becoming a force in the Americana/roots community.
