Erick Morillo

Erick Morillo

You could call the multi-talented Erick Morillo a jack-of-all-trades, but even that would be an understatement. As a producer, remixer, and DJ, Morillo has gone from the hit-making dance act Reel 2 Real, the group behind the global smash hit "I Like to Move It," to become the creator and CEO of Subliminal Records.

What started as a small label in 1997, Subliminal Records now has 100 releases to its credit, and has become an independent distributor in its own right. It includes imprints which highlight different styles of house music as well as Subliminal Sessions, a series of compilations formulated to showcase the label's developing artists. Prompted by the success of a weekly party he started in New York, Morillo took Subliminal Sessions on the road, which earned him residencies at the famed Ministry of Sound in London, the annual Winter Music Conference in Miami, and Ibiza's Pacha nightclub, among others.

Morillo and his label are no strangers to success having received numerous awards including the "Best Independent Label" honor for the past two years at the Muzik magazine awards in the UK. Subliminal was named the "Best 12" Label" by Mixer magazine in 2001, and won "Best International Club Award" for Subliminal Sessions/Underwater at Pacha, Ibiza at the Muzik magazine Dance Awards for 2002. Morillo was named "Best International DJ" in 2002 and "Best House DJ" in 1999 and 2001 at the Pacha Ibiza awards. Most recently, Erick was presented with the Heineken Ampt/ASCAP Recognition Award, for his significant contributions to the dance music scene.

Morillo has released many "mega club anthems" including Octahvia's "In My Life," Da Mob featuring Jocelyn Brown's "Fun," Pete Heller's "Big Love," and Ministers De La Funk featuring Jocelyn Brown's "Believe." He has also produced many songs under numerous pseudonyms for Ministers De La Funk, Pianoheadz, and many others. In addition to this stunning repertoire, he's also done remixes for the likes of Whitney Houston, Crystal Waters, Jocelyn Brown, Basement Jaxx, Madison Avenue, LL Cool J and Enrique Iglesias.

The beginning of July marked the release of Subliminal Sessions 5, Taking it Back. With Morillo back at the helm, this volume combines today's hot new dance hits with yesterday's timeless dance classics. Currently, Morillo is working on his solo album set for release some time this year. It promises to be a smash containing collaborations with Boy George, Matt Goss, and the not so lightweight P. Diddy, among others.
