About ASCAP Nashville

Early ASCAP members include such country music legends as Gene Autry, Jimmie Rodgers, Fred Rose and Bob Wills. ASCAP's Nashville office began as a small, one-person operation in 1963. By 1968, the office had grown enough to fill its own building, and by 1986, the Society was licensing half of America's hit country songs. In recognition of ASCAP'S close, productive, and mutually benefical relationship with the home of American country music, the Mayor of Nashville issued a proclamation declaring February 13th, 1989, to be "ASCAP Day" in Music City.

In 1992, the new ASCAP Building on Nashville's Music Row (see views at right) was opened, signifying the active role the Nashville community has played in the Society's operations, and the Society's commitment to the community. ASCAP's country writers and publishers have been in the forefront in testifying before Congress, protecting our members' rights, and enriching the ASCAP repertory. ASCAP has also established the ASCAP Legislative Fund for the Arts, a Political Action Committee (PAC). Other ways in which the Society serves its membership is through workshops, showcases, events, and, of course, the website you're looking at right now.
