Jule Styne
Jule Styne was born on Dec. 31, 1905 in London, England. He studied piano with a professor from the London Conservatory of Music from the age of six until his family moved to Chicago when he turned eight. In Chicago he studied piano at the Chicago School of Music and eventually took composition courses as well. To impress a girl he wrote his first song, "Sunday", which wound up selling over 500,000 copies of sheet music giving him his first hit song at the age of 21.
Styne's unforgettable songs for Broadway include "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," "The Party's Over," "Let Me Entertain You," and "People." And the genius of Jule Styne has sparked the theatrical careers of Broadway legends Carol Channing, Judy Holliday, Mary Martin, Ethyl Merman, Carol Burnett, Nanette Fabray, Phil Silvers, and Barbra Streisand.
