ASCAP Presents...The ASCAP EAR, Vol. 5

Ampt LogoFor the third year, the ASCAP Presents… Heineken Ampt Music Series showcased top local artists and bands (signed and unsigned) in their home cities. The showcases were designed to bring these deserving performers and songwriters to the attention of both the music industry and the public, in line with ASCAP’s long-standing commitment to developing new musical talent and Heineken USA’s efforts to support performing arts. The series featured showcases in seven of the nation’s most vibrant music scenes: New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Memphis, Orlando and Raleigh. The Oranges Band "My Street"

Frontman Roman Kuebler recruited Dave Voyles, Tim Johnston and Dan Black from his hometown of Baltimore, MD to provide a foundation for his musical vision. After three years of touring, The Oranges Band has finished their first full length album which was produced by Craig Bowen.

Cordalene "Headlong"

Cordalene’s "indie-power-punk-pop-rock" sound is created by Mike Kiley’s passionate singing, Jamie Olson’s crunchy guitar, and the quirky playing of bassist Jim McGuinn and drummer Joe Boyle. Cordalene is pop music at it’s best: energy-fueled, raw and catchy, but with a complexity and depth that grows with each listen.

Scott Sudbury "I'm Her Freak"

Scott Sudbury is grounded in the deep musical tradition of Memphis, the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock and roll. The musical exposure he received as a young child helped to shape Scott’s songwriting style of soulful, blues-based rock n’ roll.

Punk rockers, The Pleased, drew 350 people to their third show ever at Slim's in San Francisco and have continued to increase their fan base and the buzz surrounding their remarkable live shows. They have toured in supporting roles with The Vines, Clinic, The Von Bondies and The Walkmen.

The seemingly organic quality of LaGuardia’s music gives no hint to the painstaking song construction and complex arrangements that are created by the collaboration between Michael Morpurgo (bass, vocals, guitar), Lee Bernstein (vocals, guitar), Joshua Ostrander (vocals, guitar, keys) and Greg Lyons (drums).

Black Cat Music’s unique brand of rock and roll has been thrilling audiences and listeners since the summer of 1998 and their third album, Hands in the estuary, torso in the lake, extends the reach of their hard driving, nervous breakdown rock and roll.

Singer-songwriters Brad Postelthwaite and Tim Regan have created a collection of beautifully melodic songs. The band develops and colors these expressive tunes on their debut album, Our Land Brains, with a varied, playfully experimental sound that makes great use of piano, horns and strings with their guitar-bass-drums format.

A septet out of Gainesville, Florida, Big Sky plays dynamic pop rock with a Southern accent. A style that melds memorable melodies and heartfelt hooks with a highly accessible blend of roots and blues influenced rock n' roll.

Philadelphia’s Pilot Round The Sun embodies a unique duality of pure rock fury and sweet soothing soul. Their high-profile gigs have recently included a show at the Camden Tweeter Center as part of WPLY Philadelphia’s "Feztival" and a showcase at the 2002 CMJ conference in New York City.

Over the past five years, Uncle Mudfish’s Clay Stone, Tony Dillen, James Dillen and Scott Perry released their debut album, The Best is Yet to Come, inked a 7-song deal with MTV’s "Road Rules," and scored the soundtrack music for the gaming company Radica’s international unveiling of "Gamestar."

Carol Restivo’s music is anchored in a mix of driving rock beats and tireless vocals with a streetwise flavor. A native of New Jersey, he has been very active in the New York new music scene for the last five years playing with former bands IZ and UCADA.

Frank Prevatte (lead vocals), Brent Pongetti (guitar), James Granell (bass) and Lane Smith (drums) make up the Tampa rock band BIK (Born Into Kaos). In addition to gigs at NYC’s Brownies, LA’s Viper Room and Livestock 2000 and 2001, BIK has opened for Finger Eleven, Fuel and Papa Roach.

This Philly-based melodic rock trio began when percussionist Will Noon (Sleepasaurus, Motherbox Records) met bassist Clint Stelfox and guitar virtuoso and singer Fred Mascherino. They share a love for aggressive, yet dynamic songs, and have created a fusion of big guitar music with desperate, weeping vocal serenades.

The Emma Gibbs Band, a five-piece out of Winston-Salem NC, has developed a fresh take on bluegrass and country music that combines a revved-up approach with the traditional instrumentation of mandolin, lap steel, harmonica, stand-up bass and guitar.

Jupiter Coyote was conceived in Brevard, North Carolina by Matthew Mayes (guitar, Guijo, vocals), John Felty (vocals, guitars), Sanders Brightwell (bass). Steve Trismen (vocals, fiddle) with Noel Felty (drums) joining the band in the last few years. JC offers a new twist in southern rock delivered with a relaxed, worldly view - a style that has been referred to as "mountain rock."

With its spicey mix of rock, rap and organic rhythms, this group of Miami musicians is stirring up sound, blending African and Latin beats with pop, rock, and hip-hop. Cuchara consists of Jay Giron (drums), Joey Cucchiara (vocals/bass), Billy Marrero (percussion), Frank Gonzalez (guitar) and Luis Perdomo (singer/rapper).

Jadestone’s storyboard songwriting, smooth delivery and style of modern rock has ignited the stages and airwaves of South Florida. The seductive voice of frontman Yves Giraud, the passionate guitar work of Gary Titi and the tribal grooves of drummer Steve Quinto combine to form a Europop-infused sound that has been compared to the Goo Goo Dolls, Oasis and David Gray.
