Meaghan Smith (SOCAN)

Meaghan Smith

Meaghan Smith's first official full-length album, Take Me Dancing, is complete with string quartets, mellotron samples, a full piece horn section, and topped with Meaghan's smooth, soaring vocals.

Her sound combines the instrumentation of old jazz (complete with horns, strings and a big-band-swing-groove) with a twist of modern pop sensibilities. Her songs are chalk full of a vocal styling comparable to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Her smooth voice soars over a bed of lush instrumentation, beautifully crafted to support the storytelling style of her lyrics.

Upon closer inspection, the listener will hear some unexpected sonic treats, and they are nothing that would have been found in the nineteen-thirties jazz that her songs are so evocative of.

Meaghan plans to release the album in 2008.

"With a voice from heaven, but actually from Nova Scotia, Meaghan Smith is my pick for becoming a household name, dwarfing the potential of Feist. From the album Take Me Dancing, this is like Billie Holiday for '08. Simply gorgeous - a star!" — Larry Little, Future Sounds
