The SXSW Music Festival, the music industry's long-running and revered annual conference in Austin, Texas, started with a bang on March 15th. ASCAP Presents..., the Society's highly-anticipated rock showcase, kicked things off at the Dirty Dog on Sixth Street with seven outstanding rock bands: Aberdeen City, Love of Diagrams, Pilotdrift, Office, The Rinse, Colored Shadows and the Ark.

Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young gave a special interview with filmmaker Jonathan Demme and music journalist Jaan Uhelszki at the convention center, where he talked about songwriting and Demme's new Neil Young concert film, Heart of Gold.

On the eve of the music fest, ASCAP's Film & TV Music Department hosted its annual Filmmaker BBQ and Film Music Party in Austin. Also, ASCAP member Ray Benson hosted his annual Birthday Bash featuring several of Austin's hometown heroes and other musical friends, including Charlie Sexton, Ian Moore, Jeff Healey, Dale Watson and others.
