Wes Anderson said that when he made The Royal Tenenbaums, he was trying to re-create a New York that never really existed, or only existed in his memory. For much of Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s debut, The Dust of Retreat, the musicians attempted to re-create their own unreal ideas of how Greenwich Village might have been in the 1960s. While The Dust of Retreat may not paint an accurate portrait of 1960s New York, it is a kind of urban folk rock that is both passionate and intellectual. At the root of everything are beautiful, fragile melodies and stories of people interacting on cold sidewalks, or in bars, or in basements, all delivered with wry humor and a cynical sincerity.

“Richard Edwards cements his reputation as a fast-rising singer songwriter on this debut from Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s When accompanied by nothing more than an acoustic guitar, his songs are strong enough to break hearts and shake convictions. But when his Margot band mates add cello, trumpet, banjo and synthesizer in all the right places, the group makes music to please fans of folk, chamber pop and modern rock styles” - The Indianapolis Star
