Trail of Dead roars on the Plan
B stage. |
|
From the quiet folk genius of
Lori McKenna to the roaring sonic
blasts of And You Will Know By the
Trail of Dead, the ASCAP Café
presented some unforgettable music
as the Sundance Film Festival headed
into its final weekend.
Los Pinguous delighted the audience
with the rollicking rhythms of the
music of Argentina, mixing both traditional
and original songs. Blind singer/songwriter
Raúl Midón mesmerized the audience
on Thursday, January 27th with masterful
guitar and vocal work as he sang songs
that blended soul, jazz and funk from
his forthcoming album to be releaseed
by EMI in the coming weeks.
Former Toad the Wet Sprocket frontman
Glenn Phillips, who is now signed
to Los Highway Records, hit the stage
accompanied by Nickel Creek's
Sean and Sara Watkins. They traded
off performing each other's
songs, harmonizing beautifully and
playing a variety of stringed instruments.
Also, the trio, Midnight Movies, mixed
samples and live instruments to create
cinematic art-rock that was both beautiful
yet caustic. |
