"Worlds
Apart - It's f**king awesome, and if
you don't know, shut up and listen...."
-- Filter
Known for their fiery live performances,
And
You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead has garnered much praise for their
ability to marry punk rock ideals with catchy
garage rock songwriting. The band first
formed in late 1994 by singers-guitarists-drummers
Jason Reece and Conrad Keely. They later
moved from Olympia, WA to Austin, TX, adding
guitarist Kevin Allen and bassist-sampler
Neil Busch to the lineup. The band then
released their self-titled debut on Trance
Syndicate in 1998. The following year, the
group was picked up by Merge Records to
release Madonna. It didn't take long for
Interscope Records to take notice. The band's
first major label release, Source Tags
& Codes, received critical praise
and gained the band an even bigger following.
Their upcoming album, Worlds Apart,
will be released in 2005 on Interscope.

"Young, handsome country
singer Billy Currington has a strong, eponymous
debut."
-- Vanity Fair
Mercury recording artist Billy
Currington, a Southern boy
at heart and dedicated singer/songwriter,
introduced himself to the country music
industry with the emotional ballad, "Walk
A Little Straighter," for which he
wrote the chorus for when he was 12 years
old. The debut single from his self-titled
debut album led Currington straight to the
Top 10, peaking at No. 8. His follow-up
single, "I Got A Feelin'," was
just as successful, and skyrocketed Currington
even further up the charts to No. 5. These
days Currington can be seen and heard performing
the "Party for Two" duet with
country superstar Shania Twain, which sits
at No. 9 on the charts and is rapidly garnering
Currington nationwide attention. Look for
Currington's next album, due out mid-2005.

"If God had a voice,
it would sound like Angelique...."
-- Dave Matthews
Grammy-nominated African-born songstress
Angelique
Kidjo's latest release, Oyaya!,
which means "joy" in Kidjo's native
language of Yoruba, combines the West African
traditions of her childhood with elements
of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well
as influences from Europe and Latin America.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated
with a diverse group of international artists
like Santana and Gilberto Gil. Her duet
with Dave Matthews on the song "Iwoya,"
which appeared on her last record, Black
Ivory Soul, was a critical success
that helped diversify her fan base. The
third part in a trilogy that previously
explored African roots in music from the
United States (Oremi) and Brazil
(Black Ivory Soul), Oyaya!
fuses African and French lyrics to music
that draws upon musical traditions of the
Caribbean Diaspora. With her husband, Jean
Hebrail, Kidjo penned 13 original songs
in a variety of indigenous Caribbean styles,
including salsa, calypso, meringue and ska.
Kidjo sings the numbers in English, French,
and the African languages Yoruba and Fon.

"Kweller's skeletal
songs rely mostly on his acoustic guitar,
garage-y riffs and swinging Beatlesque piano...
rarely does simple charm go so far."
-- Blender
Melodic and magnetic, Ben
Kweller has earned a well-deserved
reputation as one of the most compelling
musical artists of the day. With two critically
acclaimed albums on the shelf (Sha Sha,
2002; On My Way, 2004), this Brooklyn-based
musician continues to charm audiences with
his playful folkadelica, whimsical wordplay
and unstoppable, indie-pop hooks. Inspired
by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground
and Violent Femmes, Kweller's musical and
lyrical focus maintains a refreshingly kaleidoscopic
pitch. In the words of the artist himself,
"I'm a Gemini, so I have all of these
different personalities and interests. And
that comes out in the music, I guess. It's
just one big shamble of me." Set

"Martin Luther is
the nitty-gritty, the non-packaged, the
uncut funk. Stop wishing for the way things
used to be and start listening to Martin."
-- Rolling Stone
San Francisco native Martin
Luther is baring his soul on
his sophomore release, Rebel Soul Music,
a blend of nitty-gritty rock, blues, funk
and R&B. Following in the tradition
of artists such as George Clinton and Prince
who have infused their music with unmistakable
soul, Martin Luther is setting the tone
for today's nu-soul movement. Raised on
a diet of choir hymns but later taken by
the attitude in rock music, Luther's music
is a mix of gritty guitars, stylish melodies
and fervent gospel-infused vocals. Martin's
debut album, the independently released,
The Calling, garnered Martin Luther
acclaim. His sophomore effort, Rebel
Soul Music, is characterized by its
messages of racial politics, sexual longing
and redemption. After Martin Luther's undeniable
and revolutionary talent caught the ears
of ?uestlove, he asked him to join The Roots'
Okayplayer tour. His presence on a tour
filled with hip-hop luminaries is an indication
of the success that awaits this gifted artist.

"McKay is that rare
performer whose talent is irrefutable."
-- Rolling Stone
Nellie
McKay is a multi-talented
young pianist-singer-songwriter whose debut
CD, Get Away From Me, showcases
her unique style and wit. The 18 tracks
on this debut run the gamut of topics from
death, poverty, anger, philosophy, politics,
love in the abstract, animal rights, frustration,
sarcasm, self-hate, feminism, labor, phoniness
and desire. Nellie was born in London and
raised in Harlem. She began playing piano
at 2 years old and attended the prestigious
Manhattan School of Music. Frustrated with
their disciplined approach, Nellie dropped
out and began playing around New York. Her
incredible live shows garnered her a big
fan base and eventually the attention of
critical press and Columbia Records. Released
in February 2004, Nellie's debut was recently
dubbed one of the "50 Greatest CDs

"Anna Nalick sings
in a voice that's feminine and confident,
calling to mind Alanis Morissette, Fiona
Apple and Meredith Brooks. Her vocals blend
well with the pure, pop melodies behind
them, creating a combination that could
land her anywhere, from the opening credits
of a new teen drama to a small coffeehouse
performance to Top 40 radio."
-- Performing Songwriter
Anna
Nalick is
an unmistakable new voice in pop music,
full of youthful exuberance and provocative
reflection. Her debut album, Wreck of

"Glen Phillips
is one of the premier pop songwriters of
his generation."
-- Nashville Rage
Glen
Phillips began his career at
the age of 14 as lead vocalist and lyricist
of what was then a garage band called Toad
The Wet Sprocket. Over the next 13 years,
they released six albums and toured relentlessly,
selling close to four million records. After
the breakup of Toad, Glen began the transition
to solo artist, working on what he playfully
described as "American Intellipop." The
first evidence of his post-Toad, post-30
direction was 2002's album, a stripped-down
affair, characterized by corrosive themes
in tuneful settings. In 2003, Glen released
Live at Largo, a solo acoustic
album documenting one of his intimate shows
at the legendary club, which has become
his home away from home when he's in Los
Angeles. Glen's debut album on Lost Highway
Records, Winter Pays For Summer,
will be released March 29, 2005.
"Nickel Creek, because they started
so young and lucked into mentorships with
some forward thinking musicians, they don't
think twice about making musical bedfellows
of Bob Dylan and Bach in the middle of a
bluegrass tune." -- LA Times
Nickel
Creek, composed of the young
trio of Sara Watkins, Sean Watkins and Chris
Thile, have been at the forefront of acoustic
music innovation since their self-titled
debut in 2000. The band uniquely takes the
foundation of bluegrass and wraps it with
twists of pop, folk, classical, and jazz
for a truly uncategorizable sound. Time
Magazine named the group "music innovators
for a new millennium" -- and with their
second album, This Side, they won
their first Grammy. Nickel Creek continually
strives to never stay the same, and grow
in their playing and songwriting as they
record their third album with producer Eric
Valentine.

"The
strongest, most decisively shaped songwriting
personality to come along in years."
-- The New York Times
Suzanne
Vega ushered in a female,
acoustic, folk-pop singer-songwriter movement
that would include the likes of Tracy Chapman,
Shawn Colvin, Indigo Girls, as well as the
Lilith Fair phenomenon. Suzanne's 1985 self-titled
debut was a hit in the U.K., and critically
acclaimed in the U.S but it was 1987's Solitude
Standing that elevated Suzanne
to star status. The album went platinum.
Its "Luka," written from the perspective
of an abused boy, was a surprising hit.
Suzanne has also worked on four other album
releases, a retrospective CD, a book of
poetry and hosting gig on the public radio
series "American Mavericks." Suzanne is
currently working on a new album.

"Peter Cincotti is
poised to make the leap from connoisseur's
secret to stardom." -- New York
Peter
Cincotti started tinkling the keys of a toy piano when he was 3 years old. It was love at first C chord. Lessons followed, as did the unveiling of an undeniable natural talent. While in high school, he gigged regularly throughout Manhattan and studied with renowned jazz masters and performed at the White House. In 2003, he was the youngest solo artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Charts. The following year he reunited with legendary producer Phil Ramone to record, On The Moon, the follow-up to his 2003 self-titled debut. On The Moon features Cincotti’s keenly observed songwriting and fresh innovative takes on standards, and has the feel of a milestone album by an artist who's going to be around for a long time.

"The marvelous Dresden
Dolls are, by all accounts, a living, breathing

The

in between Weimar-era cabaret and CBGB's

Palmer on vocals and piano and Brian Viglione
on drums and guitar, The Dresden Dolls create
confessional story-songs, offering listeners
the bruised intimacy of a tortured singer

"Since her 1979 emergence,
Rickie Lee Jones has always whipped a myriad
of influences into her own musical blender."
-- Rolling Stone
Rickie
Lee Jones's past is mired with
misfortunes from her explosive family relationships
to her expulsion from school to her plight
with alcoholism as a teenager. But through
all of her troubled times, Jones managed
to focus on honing her skills as a singer
- combining Beat-influenced spoken monologues
with the smoothness of jazz and R&B
inspired grooves. She released her self-titled
debut album on Warner Brothers in 1979.
She followed up with Pirates in
1981 and Girl at Her Volcano in
1983. Her next album, The Magazine,
had her teaming up with composer James Newton
Howard. After a brief hiatus, Jones returned
in 1989 with Flying Cowboys, which
was produced by Steely Dan's Walter Becker.
David Was of Was (Not Was) produced her
next album, Pop Pop, which covered
ballads ranging from Tin Pan Alley to Haight-Ashbury.
Her most recent effort, Evening of My
Best Day, is considered one of the
best releases of 2004. The compellingly
poetic album reconfirmed her talent as one
of today's most distinctive lyricists.

"I fell in love with [Aha
Shake Heartbreak] immediately, as you
will if you let yourself get past what you
think the band are all about and actually
listen to what they're doing, what they're
saying and how they're saying it."
-- Rob Fitzpatrick, NME
Kings
of Leon stormed
onto the music scene, sleighing critics
musicians and fans with their debut, Youth
and Young Manhood, which Rolling
Stone gave a rare four stars and NME
called, "One of the best debut albums
of the last 10 years." Their sophomore
release, Aha Shake Heartbreak,
has also wowed listeners and prompted the
London Times to name Kings of Leon
"perhaps the finest American band of
this decade." Raised in the rural southeastern
United States, Kings of Leon - brothers
Nathan, Caleb and Jared Followill and their
first cousin Matthew Followill - have enjoyed
a wild few years on the road, and Aha is
a reflection of recent road experiences.
Lyrically shocking at times, the album appropriately
speaks to their recent over-indulgences,
debauchery and general fast-living. Aha
Shake Heartbeak was released in Europe
in September 2004 and will be released in
the United States February 22, 2005.

"...a fitting tribute

(Critic's Choice) -- Chuck Arnold, People
With one of the most prominent and distinctive
voices of an entire generation, Michael
McDonald's sound made him a
star. He found a place all his own between
blue-eyed soul and smooth soft rock with
soul - real, honest and unforced soul -
at the core of his long and varied career
in music. Initially hitting the scene with
Steely Dan, Michael later became a member
of the Doobie Brothers, ushering in the
group's most popular period with hits like
"What a Fool Believes" and "Taking
It to the Streets." Beginning his solo
career in 1982, now in 2004, at the height

"Like Patty Griffin
and Maria McKee, McKenna's Bittertown
folds rock, folk, and country textures into
wistful and wry reflections on heartache
and faith." (4 stars) ****
-- USA TODAY
This songwriter and mother of four, who
still lives a stone's throw from the house
she grew up in, doesn't fit into any stereotype.
Lori
McKenna's garnered comparisons
to Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen,
Dashboard Confessional and Rosanne Cash.
Her compelling narratives, caught between
the cracks and characters of her hometown,
are played and sung with an emotional grit
under the nails that comes from digging
in life's mundane and less illuminated holes.
Unflinchingly honest and incapable of artifice,
Lori McKenna doesn't simply write songs;
she unearths them, scrubs them off, and
bares them to us, tarnished gems that reveal
both the bitter and the sweet.

"...seductive live
performances & emotional lyrics."
-- CMJ
The
October came together in a matter of
months, but the sound and voice of The October
has been building for years. Frontman Dustin
Burnett has been working for the past nine
years to bring about the sound and energy
that is now labeled as The October. After
seven years of touring and recording with
his previous band, Burnett wiped the slate
clean and forged into a new sound and project. The debut recording from The
October, Push Me Off the Side of the
Earth, created a buzz within weeks
of its release. Burnett wrote the songs,
played all the instruments, recorded, mixed
and mastered the debut.
The record is packed full of huge choruses
and up-tempo songs that will remind you
just a touch of your favorite moments during
the 80's new wave movement (think classic
U2 and The Church) and brit rock (think
Echo and the Bunnymen and Oasis). Burnett
has now teamed up with guitarist James Lindsey,
bassist Matt Wiley and drummer Aaron Spraggs
to complete The October.

What I ended up with was something that
