On October 8th ASCAP
held the first installment of a new
showcase series benefiting charity,
Song Soup, at Los Angeles' famed Largo
club. The series, which features acclaimed
songwriter/performer/actor John
Doe as permanent host, features
an established writer and an up-and-coming
writer performing separately and together.
John and each writer perform individually
and together, with John "interviewing"
each writer on various aspects of
the songwriting process in-between
songs.
The debut event featured Doe with
guests Nonesuch recording artist Sam
Phillips (who also scores TV's
"Gilmore Girls") and up-and-coming
singer/songwriter Tom
Brosseau. The sell-out event benefited
the Musician's Assistance Program
(MAP),
with 100% of the door going to the
charity. |
