Phil Roy
Born in Philadelphia, Phil Roy has had three unique and distinct careers involving music. As a songwriter, Phil has had songs recorded by Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, The Neville Brothers, Mavis Staples and many others. His songs appear in numerous films including the Academy Award winners As Good As It Gets and Leaving Las Vegas. In the last several years, Phil's solo albums have been his primary focus. His first solo release, grouchyfriendly, was named "Independent Album of the Year" by The Musicians Atlas. His second release Issues + Options was acclaimed as one of the Top 10 albums of the year by Stephen Holden of the New York Times. Phil's third release The Great Longing will be released in May of 2007 on the Cooking Vinyl label. In recent years, performing has been a very big part of Phil's life. Having toured the country in support of his albums, he performed to a sold out crowd in New York City's Lincoln Center as part of its annual "American Songbook Presents" series. Mike Marrone of XM's station The Loft said: "The Phil Roy album has affected me like no other record in the past decade." |
