Ascap Vanguard Award
Santi White (aka Santigold)
In Recognition of the Impact of Musical Genres Which Help Shape the Future of American Music, ASCAP is Proud to Present the 2009 Vanguard Award to Santigold
From A&R rep to punk rock singer, from songwriter/producer to genre-busting pop star, Downtown Music Publishing artist Santi White (aka Santigold) has done it all and done it in style. The Philly native's varied background informs her sparkling, eclectic music – Santigold's electrifying debut album Santogold , released in April 2008, bubbled and popped with the influences of dub, punk and 80s new wave, immediately establishing her as a post-modern musical heroine. Radio hit "L.E.S. Artistes" was named the #2 single of the year by Rolling Stone , while other album tracks were tapped for high-profile commercials and video games. Santigold has lent her songwriting talents to projects with Lilly Allen, Ashlee Simpson, Kanye West and the Strokes' Julian Casablancas, and she's toured with Coldplay, Björk, M.I.A. and Jay-Z. Unafraid to deviate, to mix and match established forms to create bold new ones, Santigold has already fulfilled much of her enormous potential. ASCAP is proud to honor her with the 2009 Vanguard Award.
Past ASCAP Vanguard honorees include The Arcade Fire, Beck, Modest Mouse, the Strokes, Built to Spill, the Mars Volta, Joseph Arthur, Jack Johnson, the All-American Rejects and Sara Bareilles.
