Sara Bareilles

ASCAP Vanguard Award

In recognition of the impact of musical genres which help shape the future of American music, ASCAP is proud to present the 2008 ASCAP Vanguard Award to Sara Bareilles.

Sara Bareilles is a young singer-songwriter from Eureka, California who has emerged as a pop music talent to watch. Ten years ago, her high school yearbook celebrated her as her class's "Most Talented." Sara has lived up to that title and much more, judging by her recent success on the Billboard charts: Sara's Little Voice (Epic Records) has spent a half year on the album chart, reaching the Top Ten and earning her a Gold Album Award. Her single, "Love Song," was featured in a commercial for the Rhapsody online music service and recently reached #1 on the Billboard Pop 100 chart. In an era of interesting and skilled female singer-songwriters, Sara Bareilles is among the most singularly gifted. ASCAP proudly recognizes her with the Vanguard Award.

Past ASCAP Vanguard honorees include The Arcade Fire, Beck, Modest Mouse, the Strokes, Built to Spill, the Mars Volta, Joseph Arthur, Jack Johnson and the All-American Rejects.
