ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards 2004/2005

Jeff Schneider, a seventeen-year-old high school senior from southwestern Connecticut, is lead alto in the award-winning Greenwich High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of John S. Yoon. The winner of numerous awards, including outstanding soloist at the North American Music Festivals in Virginia Beach in 2004, he is as comfortable improvising jazz on the saxophone and piano as he is composing and arranging. In 2003 Jeff was a winner of ASCAP's Young Jazz Composer Awards for his big band chart, Breakfast at Noon. In May of 2003 Jeff received a soloist award at Lincoln Center's prestigious Essentially Ellington Competition, presented to him by Wynton Marsalis. He has attended the Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic Jazz Workshop, the Litchfield Jazz Festival Summer Music School, and the Berklee College of Music's Summer Performance Program. Currently, Jeff is a student in the Manhattan School of Music's Preparatory Division Jazz Program, studying saxophone with Felipe Salles. In addition, he has studied jazz piano, clarinet, and flute. Jeff is also a member of the New York Youth Symphony's Jazz Band Classic under the direction of Ryan Keberle. Jeff plans to attend a jazz conservatory next year.
