27, Astoria, NY
Born in Morristown, New Jersey and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Bob has naturally excelled at music since first picking up the saxophone at age 13. His musical roots lie in hours of endless compositional improvisation at his grandfather's piano before even knowing what a musical note looked like.
After graduating from Jacksonville's Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Bob received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied with George Garzone, Hal Crook, and Billy Pierce, among others. While at Berklee, Bob received many awards and honors including Billboard Magazine's prestigious Billboard Endowed Scholarship, the Charlie Parker Scholarship, and the Frederic Cameron Weber Award. Bob was chosen to represent Berklee at many festivals and concerts including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the JVC Jazz Festival, the Phoenix Jazz Festival in Japan, and the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC. His quartet also was featured on the BBC World Wide Radio program, "Jazzmatazz," with Alyn Shipton.
While still in college, Bob was invited to be a part of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center and the Steans Institute for Young Artists where he was fortunate to work with artists like Terence Blanchard, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, James Moody, Rufus Reid, and David Baker. Since graduating summa cum laude from Berklee and moving to New York City in 2000, Bob has performed with a wide range of leading musicians including Brian Blade, Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rogers, Gregory Hutchinson, Eric Harland, Kevin Mahogany, Donald Harrison, Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz), Hubert Eaves (Eryka Badu), Walter Beasley, Eric Krasno (Soulive), and Bob Brookmeyer. He has performed throughout New York at clubs like the Blue Note, the Jazz Standard, and the 55 Bar, as well as many festivals and clubs in Europe and Japan.
Beginning in 1999, Reynolds has enjoyed a productive collaboration collaboration with singer-songwriter Jonah Smith and his band, performing all over New York City, up and down the East Coast and five tours of Spain. The group has arrived at a very compelling original and multi-faceted sound that reflects soul, blues, folk, and jazz influences music best described, simply, as Americana.
