Patrick Cornelius was born in Lanstuhl, Germany, and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He began studying the piano at the age of 5, and gravitated towards the saxophone as a teenager. While attending John Marshall High school, he earned numerous awards for his musicianship and academic achievement, including scholarships from Downbeat Magazine and The National Merit Corporation.
Patrick enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied with George Garzone, Hal Crook, Shannon LeClaire, and Greg Hopkins. While at Berklee, he was awarded the Billboard Magazine Endowed Scholarship, one of the college's most prestigious honors. In 1999, Patrick was selected to attend The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where he studied and performed with Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, and Robert Hurst. He has performed at The Monterey Jazz Festival, The San Antonio Jazz Alive Festival, The Kennedy Center, The Blue Note in New York, and Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, among other venues, and can be heard performing throughout the greater New York, New Jersey, and Long Island area. The Boston Globe has characterized Patrick's playing as "perky and propulsive."
