Dixie Chicks Win Five as ASCAP Dominates the 49th Grammy Awards
The 49th Grammy Awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA on February 11, 2007. The Dixie Chicks picked up five awards and swept the major categories (Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year) in addition to winning Best Country Album and Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. Other multiple ASCAP winners included Mary J. Blige and Rick Rubin with three awards while Tony Bennett, Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley, Ludacris, John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake and Michael Tilson Thomas each won two Grammys.
ASCAP members Joan Baez, Ornette Coleman, the Doors, the Grateful Dead and Bob Wills received The Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. Stephen Sondheim was honored with The Academy's Trustees Award.
