ASCAP Repertoire Dominates London's BRIT Awards
ASCAP repertoire dominated London's annual BRIT Awards, held February 14, 2007 at Earls Court in London. Now in its 27th year, the show has grown bigger and better each year both in terms of sheer size and the boost in sales it gives to its nominees.
The show was televised live worldwide for the first time since 1989 and featured stellar performances from the cream of British and International acts, including Scissor Sisters who opened the show with a flamboyant version of their hit "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'". Other outstanding performances came from The Killers who arrived on stage in a 30 feet high exploding flight case.
Notable winners were Arctic Monkeys who won two awards. Their acceptance videos saw them dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz and members of the Village People. Fresh from his U.S. live dates, which included a performance at ASCAP's Sundance Music Café, James Morrison was on hand to collect the Best Male Solo Artist award. But, if there were an award for biggest crowd reaction and amount of love in one room for one band, it would go to Take That. They performed their recent smash "Patience" to a standing ovation and picked up the award for Best Single for the same song.
