ASCAP songwriters and artists were honored and featured during the 6th Annual Americana Music Conference & Awards held September 8-10 in Nashville.
ASCAP presented a showcase during the conference featuring stellar performances by Dan Colehour, Danny Flowers, David Olney, and Adrienne Young. The showcase, sponsored by Paste Magazine, Proper Music Group, Sonicbids and CMT, took place on September 9th at the AMA Internet Café & Listening Lounge, which provided an intimate setting for these talented songwriters and artists to perform. |

The Americana Music Conference is specifically geared to the Americana music genre and brings together an estimated 750 artists, record executives, managers, agents, music publishers, music retailers, producers, promoters, allied professionals and major media for three days of learning, networking and entertainment. As a sponsor of the conference, ASCAP executives from the Nashville office were on hand to answer questions at the ASCAP trade show booth located at the Nashville Convention Center.
ASCAP members Buddy Miller, Mary Gauthier, Guy Clark, Judy Collins and the late Mark Heard were honored at the 4th Annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards, which were presented at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on
Friday, September 9, 2005.
Taking top honors for Album of the Year was roots music veteran Buddy Miller for his Universal United House of Prayer. A track from the album, "Worry Too Much," earned Heard Song of the Year honors.
Singer/songwriter Gauthier took home the prize for New/Emerging Artist of the Year, and the revered singer/songwriter Guy Clark was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting by country music legend Emmylou Harris.
Judy Collins was presented with the First Amendment Center/AMA Spirit Of Americana Free Speech Award, and performed her song "Amazing Grace" during the awards ceremony.
The two-hour show will be telecast nationally on September 26, 2005 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Great American Country (GAC).
