Welcome to THE ASCAP EAR, a special promotional compilation featuring a richly diverse collection of talent featured in our showcases or workshops. Ranging stylistically from film composers to rock bands to singer/songwriters to R&B to Latin music, The ASCAP Ear is another example of the innovative ways that ASCAP can help its members to develop their careers. The ASCAP Ear is not for sale: it is a promotional CD that is distributed throughout the music and film/television industries, not only to help promote the careers of the members featured on it, but also to show that ASCAP is a great resource for identifying new talent.
Jon Kull Kull has orchestrated for numerous feature films and television shows since moving to Los Angeles from Colorado in 1990. His original music can be heard in many network promotional spots, most notably in NBC's "Must See TV" campaign. Jon Kull: JonaKull@aol.com
Ozomatli This explosive pan-Los Angeles group works a constantly-shifting fusion of funk, hip hop, rock, ska, and several styles of Latin music, sung in both English and Spanish - and they tore the roof off of our '98 SXSW showcase in Austin, TX. The 11-member outfit is as ethnically mixed as the city they call home and the music they play. "Our vibe is kind of like Amnesty International," says bassist/bandleader Wil-Dog. "We represent all the ghettos of LA." More >>> Ozomatli: c/o Almo Sounds, 310/289-3080
Citizen King Hailing from the east side streets of Milwaukee, Citizen King has honed its sonic pastiche into a strangely engaging collage of broken teeth, brass knuckles and dollar store tales that has earned the quintet a formidable following across a wide swath of the post-industrial Midwest. Soon after rocking our ASCAP Presents showcase at LA's Opium Den, they were signed to a rather impressive deal with Warner Bros. Their album is due in early 1999.
