There is a one time, nominal processing fee of $75 to apply for ASCAP membership via a mailed form, but there are no annual dues. You can join as a writer or a publisher or both - the processing fee is $75 for each mailed application.
Your writer membership will pass on to your heirs, in accordance with the Copyright Law, until the copyrights expire, and they will continue to receive royalties, just like living members. The survivors or estate of a deceased writer who was not a member may also apply for membership.
