Nashville, Tenn., January 7, 2013: The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has appointed Nashville music industry mainstay Kele Currier to the position of Director of Strategic Services, it was announced today by ASCAP Executive Vice President of Membership, Randy Grimmett. Currier's appointment coincides with the elevation of Michael Martin and LeAnn Phelan to oversee ASCAP's Nashville operations and lead the creative team of Mike Sistad, Ryan Beuschel, Robert Filhart, Evyn Mustoe and Anna Maki.

"Michael and LeAnn have consistently proven their excellence as a creative resource to the Nashville community and their commitment to delivering exceptional service to ASCAP's members," commented Grimmett. "We are excited to welcome Kele Currier, whose expertise in royalty collection and copyright administration will only enhance the outstanding level of service our Nashville team endeavors to provide."

Currier's 19 years of experience in the music business has established her continuing dedication to thorough copyright administration, licensing and proactive royalty collections for catalog acquisitions and administration clients. She joined Toronto-based ole as Director of Administration in 2010 and established the company's first Nashville-based administration presence to better serve their ever-growing roster of writers and publishing acquisitions. Prior to joining ole, Currier was recruited by ASCAP hit songwriter Craig Wiseman to help start his publishing administration company, Big Loud Bucks. Her extensive business experience in the music industry also includes copyright administration and licensing positions with several well-established local publishers, as well as a four-year stint as audit manager for Integrated Copyright Group.

A native Midwesterner, Currier came to Nashville from Decatur, Illinois, where she studied Music Education with a vocal emphasis at Millikin University. She continued her education at Belmont University's music business program, where she received a scholarship from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. She is a board member of the Copyright Society of the South, as well as a member of the SOURCE Women's Leadership Organization and the CMA.

Currier joins an ASCAP Nashville creative staff dedicated to deeply investing in the development of songwriters while serving the needs of its publisher members. The team has curated a wide range of opportunities for members in varying genres and stages of their careers to showcase their craft, including the monthly ASCAP Presents at the Bluebird Café writers round, the ASCAP New Crew Show (highlighting unsigned writers), and the ASCAP "We Create Music" showcase series at The Basement.

ASCAP's GPS (Guidance from Publishers for Songwriters) Program, which pairs up-and-coming, unsigned songwriters with local publishers for mentoring and advancement opportunities, has just kicked off its third year, and ASCAP's inaugural Music City Trifecta songwriters retreat was launched in 2012 with the goal of annually connecting the best of ASCAP's country, Christian and pop/rock songwriters nationwide at a hitmaking retreat in the heart of Music City. Songwriting workshops also remain an essential element of the team's creative focus, with ASCAP Nashville offering four different workshops annually, emphasizing the pop, country, Christian and film & television genres.

About ASCAP
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a professional membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers of every kind of music. ASCAP's mission is to license and promote the music of its members and foreign affiliates, obtain fair compensation for the public performance of their works and to distribute the royalties that it collects based upon those performances. ASCAP members write the world's best-loved music and ASCAP has pioneered the efficient licensing of that music to hundreds of thousands of enterprises who use it to add value to their business - from bars, restaurants and retail, to radio, TV and cable, to Internet, mobile services and more. The ASCAP license offers an efficient solution for businesses to legally perform ASCAP music while respecting the right of songwriters and composers to be paid fairly. With 450,000 members representing more than 8.5 million copyrighted works, ASCAP is the worldwide leader in performance royalties, service and advocacy for songwriters and composers, and the only American performing rights organization (PRO) owned and governed by its writer and publisher members. www.ascap.com
