ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams to Discuss
Legendary Songwriting Career at Austin Convention Center

New York, NY, March 6, 2012: ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers) is pleased to announce its line-up of events at the 2012 SXSW Music Conference and Festival being held March 13th-18th, 2012 in Austin, TX. For 22 years, ASCAP's high-profile showcases have been a highlight of the festival, attracting capacity crowds and music industry heavyweights who come to see the best emerging singer-songwriters and bands from the U.S. and abroad.

In addition to staging its popular rock "ASCAP Presents..." showcase and co-sponsoring Filter Magazine’s Showdown at Cedar Street day stage, ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams will be a featured speaker at the Austin Convention Center on Wednesday, March 14th at 12:30pm. On a panel entitled Adventures in Songwriting with Paul Williams, the Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winning Hall of Fame songwriter will discuss his extraordinary career with film director Stephen Kessler, whose documentary on Williams, Paul Williams Still Alive, is having its domestic premiere at the SXSW Film Festival on Sunday, March 11th.

Also on Wednesday, March 14th, ASCAP Senior Director of Membership Pop/Rock Marc Emert-Hutner will moderate a panel entitled Publishing 101: A Beginner’s Guide to Music Publishing. The panel will cover all the basics attendees need to know about music publishing in a short, easy-to-understand way.

On Friday, March 16th, ASCAP Vice President of New Media Matt DeFilippis will co-present a panel entitled Do We Need Music Collecting Societies in the Digital Age?, along with executives from the BBC, PRS For Music, Spotify and others.  The panel will examine the role and value of music collection societies in the digital age.
