Three Big ASCAP #1s Celebrated in Nashville

On Wednesday, February 27th, in the middle of a busy CRS Week in Nashville, ASCAP caught up with Brad Paisley just before his show in the Performance Hall of the Convention Center to congratulate him on his 21st #1 song as an artist and 18th as a songwriter, "Southern Comfort Zone." Longtime Paisley collaborators and co-writers Kelley Lovelace and Chris DuBois were also congratulated at the whirlwind celebration, which took place immediately before Paisley hit the stage to debut country music’s most famous show, the Grand Ole Opry, at CRS. Also on hand to fete the group were publishers Sea Gayle Music and EMI Music Publishing.

ASCAP hosted two #1 parties in Nashville on Tuesday, March 5th. The first, a party at the Nashville ASCAP office, celebrated the songwriters, producer, publishers and creative teams behind "The Only Way I Know," recorded by Jason Aldean featuring Luke Bryan and Eric Church. The song, co-written by two-time (2011 and 2012) ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year Ben Hayslip and multiple ASCAP award-winning songwriter David Lee Murphy, and produced by fellow ASCAP member Michael Knox, marked the 11th career #1 hit and 7th consecutive #1 for Aldean. Publishers This Music, N2D Publishing Company and Warner/Chappell were also on hand to congratulate the group.

Music Row then headed downtown to the Hard Rock Cafe, where ASCAP hosted a #1 party to celebrate the team behind The Band Perry's third #1 single, "Better Dig Two," which spent two weeks in the top spot and marked the band's first #1 in Canada. Hundreds of industry influentials, family and friends came together to honor ASCAP co-writers Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally and Trevor Rosen, along with fellow ASCAP member and producer Dann Huff, and publishers Little Blue Egg, Bigger Picture and Vista Loma Music. The song marks the fifth #1 hit for McAnally and became the first #1 for both Clark and Rosen. Big Machine Label Group President/CEO Scott Borchetta, Republic Nashville President/BMLG Executive Vice President Jimmy Harnen and the Republic Nashville promotion team were also on hand to congratulate the group on the single, which was recently certified Platinum for sales of more than one million units. The song has been the fastest-rising single of The Band Perry's career and is featured on their upcoming album, PIONEER, which is set to be released on April 2nd.
