Today should have been dubbed “ASCAP Day” at Bonnaroo. So many great ASCAP songwriters, bands and artists are dominating the schedule on Bonnaroo’s first full day, including Dirty Guv’nahs, Katie Herzig, Sara Watkins, Clare and the Reasons, Fitz & The Tantrums, Feist (SOCAN), the Punch Brothers, Flying Lotus, St. Vincent and tonight’s headliner Radiohead (PRS).
But I must say that one of the performers I’m most excited to see is Ludacris. While I’ve seen a lot of the other performers on today’s bill at various shows over the years, I’ve never seen Ludacris perform. And to see him perform at one of country’s largest music festivals under a bright blue sky with tens of thousands of other people will be a rush, I’m sure.
I really enjoyed Ludacris’s interview with Quincy Jones at our ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO a couple of years ago… and I’ve been intrigued by him ever since. Recently, he’s been in the studio recording a new album The Neptunes, so he’s bound to unleash some cool new material today.
Ludacris’s appearance also represents one of the great things about Bonnaroo. The festival really brings together artists from across the musical spectrum, so attendees are bound to open their minds and experience new music they may never otherwise have sought out.
While rap music isn’t my go-to fix when I want to listen to something I love… I love the fact that I’ll get to see a major rap star blow the crowd away on a farm in Tennessee.
