ASCAP & GRAMMY U teamed up for an extraordinary film & TV panel on September 15th, 2011 in San Antonio, TX. "ASCAP & GRAMMY U Presents: The Importance of Music in Film & TV 101" was held in San Antonio College's Radio, Television, and Film building. GRAMMY Board member Carlos Alvarez, GRAMMY U Texas Chapter Rep. Uwana Akpan and GRAMMY U San Antonio Ambassador Erick Ruiz kicked off the evening with a networking mixer. Immediately after the mixer, the panel began.
You could say that ASCAP literally brought Hollywood to San Antonio. The panelists consisted of ASCAP L.A.'s Associate Director of Film & TV Music Jeff Jernigan, entertainment attorney Yocel Alonso, ASCAP film composer Carl Thiel, Janet Vasquez of the San Antonio Film Commission, ASCAP film songwriter Rick Garcia, music supervisor Brian Black and Veronica R. Hernandez, the San Antonio Chapter President of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP). The panel was organized and moderated by ASCAP's Velia Gonzalez.
Shortly after following the panel the panelists had an opportunity to display their work on screen. The goal of inspiring the nearly 200 upcoming songwriters, music supervisors and filmmakers in attendance was definitely accomplished!
